Pretty quite on the farm for the past few days. That's not always a bad thing.
My granddaughter was home from school for a couple days with a head cold. Fortunately, not the flu. That is a nasty one going around.
I was able to get some baking done. I made a pineapple upside down cake and a banana bread.
We had a tea time with the banana bread that I made. While we were sipping our tea she asked me "Grammy, after this can we do something fun together like folding laundry?" LOL So after tea time we went in and folded her laundry. Gotta love a 6 year old's definition of FUN.
Baby goats are doing great. They seem to be starting to munch on grain now. I'll try to remember to get some pictures today when I haul water down.
The pony is supposed to be leaving this weekend. Hoping we found her a great home. Somewhere that she can get worked and brought out to her full potential.
I am sure she'll be happy to get away from those annoying goats that try eating all her food! To be fair, she eats theirs too.
I believe we are going to have a new addition to the barn after pony leaves. Just when I thought I was getting down on my numbers...my daughter and her husband have rescued a horse that will be housed over here. The horse needs eye surgery to remove an eye with cancer in it. She also needs to gain some weight. I'll be sure to announce when she arrives! I do have pictures of her but I want to wait till she comes in case anything happens.
While attempting to do a head count on the chickens yesterday, I realized I'm missing at least two. They are easier to tell because they are Silver Laced Wyndottes. Pretty black and white girls.
I had 4 but could only find 2. I did have a couple that were sleeping outside, up high where I could not get them down. I'm thinking it could have been an owl to get them.
Last night my Pug was barking (around midnight) and HAD to go outside. When I opened the back door she would only go about 3 feet from the door. She sniffed, growled and ran back inside. lol So brave. On the way back to bed I heard an owl out my bedroom window which is where the chicken coop is.
My head count came up with around 50 hens, 3 turkeys, 10 ducks, 4 guineas and about 6 roosters. It's very hard to count moving targets, specially when so many look alike!
We are getting a small snow flurry today. Nothing major. Just enough to make everything white again.
It's peaceful and relaxing.
Speaking of snow...time to go work on the plow bills! Another month has come and gone. Happy February!
